Global Creative Industries

About

The BA in Global Creative Industries delves into the intertwining realms of commerce and culture. We take an interdisciplinary approach to studying the fusion of the arts and commerce in the cultural industries with a global perspective. We challenge students to evaluate the evolving roles of culture in today’s society. This innovative approach explores the interconnected nature of contemporary global creative sectors, providing a comprehensive view of creative industry emergence, development, and prospects.

The programme directly connects to Hong Kong’s vibrant creative economy. It is interdisciplinary at the core and takes full advantage of the expertise in HKU’s world leading Faculty of Arts. Our expertise in humanities research and cultural practice and research have shaped the programme’s four pathways:

  1. Film and Media Communications
  2. Gaming and Digital Humanities
  3. Visual Arts, Heritage and Museum Studies
  4. Music and Performing Arts

Students explore the political, economic, and social influences on the respective creative industries worldwide. They take diverse courses on topics like new media, immersive media, music, film, museums and galleries, the art market, or gaming. All students participate in several supervised industry experiences, including internships and overseas field trips in Japan, South Korea, Europe, and China. Graduates will be in high demand across industries, including film, design, tourism, marketing, and customer relations, with opportunities to broaden their professional networks and global perspectives.
