Visual Arts, Heritage, and Museum

The art market is an important part of the creative economy and Hong Kong is its global hub in Asia. It is home to the Art Basel Hong Kong arts fair, to the leading auction houses, and to blue-chip galleries such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, White Cube, Pace, and many others. In addition, Hong Kong boasts world-class heritage sites and museums such as the M+ Museum, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, or the Tai Kwun cultural heritage and arts space. This pathway takes full advantage of these institutions as well as HKU’s Art History Department and The University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG), HKU’s own museum and art gallery. Students in this stream study art history and specialize in art forms following their interests. In addition, students have the option to focus on museum studies in courses taught by UMAG’s international scholars and practitioners.
